November 13th-17th

THIS WEEK AT SCHOOL

Reading: The sight word books and worksheets that I am sending home are typically words that your student is having a hard time with, so I am devoting extra time to really focus on these words to ensure that they are picking up on them!  Getting a good grasp on these early sight words will help tremendously with reading and fluency as we move on throughout the year!  Depending on how many groups I can get through, these books and worksheets should come home Monday, but may not be until Tuesday.  Please read and send back the book and the worksheet your child completed at home the next day, you may keep the worksheet they completed in class.  Thank you for your help with this!

Fundations / Spelling:Last week we learned how to write the letters e and r as well as the sounds associated with each letter.  To help your student make a stronger connection with these letters you could do a letter hunt when reading or driving in the car.  See if you can find more than 10 from home to school or wherever you are going! This is also a great game to play with sight words.  This week we will be working on story retelling, like we discussed in conferences we will be reading stories and recalling who, what, where, when and why.  We will also be learning about the letters h and k.

Writing:We will be writing sentences in correlation with our "sight word books" as well as a writing/drawing of what we are thankful for!

Math: We will be working on story problems this week as well as writing the numbers 8 and 9.

Religion:We will be learning about Joseph and his technicolor coat. Wish this story we will be talking about jealousy, like Joseph's brothers were jealous of him, and how to handle it.

Social Studies/Science:  This week we will be finishing up our color wheel unit!  We will also be starting our unit on Thanksgiving!
